A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway

Historic Route · St. Augustine, Florida

Seventy-two miles of A1A running down the barrier islands of St. Johns and Flagler counties, past the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the United States and along a coast where the sand turns from white to a dark reddish brown — coquina, crushed shell, unlike anything else on the Atlantic. It has been a National Scenic Byway since 2002.

State Road A1A, St. Augustine, Florida, 32084, United States

A public highway, open at all hours and free. Individual parks and attractions along it keep their own hours. Sections can close after storms.
