A Short Walk Through One Of Turkiye'S Biggest Cities, Known For Kebab, Shalgam And Cotton · Seyhan, Adana

Adana Stone Bridge, known in Turkish as Tas Kopru, crosses the Seyhan River in the middle of Adana, close to the Sabanci Central Mosque and the older quarters of the city. It is one of the oldest bridges in Turkiye still in place, traditionally linked to the Roman emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century and rebuilt in places in later Byzantine times, so its age is best given as roughly 1,500 to 1,900 years (confirm). The bridge was long a crossing on the road between Anatolia and Syria, and for centuries carried carts, caravans and then cars before traffic moved to newer crossings. Its low stone arches cross a wide river, and today it is a place to walk, look at the water and meet the city. The riverside promenade runs along both banks, and the large Central Mosque with its six minarets rises beside it. Adana is also known for its kebab, spiced turnip juice called shalgam, and very hot summers. Spring and autumn are the pleasant seasons, and evenings are best in summer.

The bridge is an open public crossing with no gate or ticket and can be walked at any hour, though the lit evening hours are the most pleasant and busiest. The promenade cafes and kebab restaurants nearby keep their own hours, usually from about 10:00 until late at night, and shut earlier in winter or on a holy day (confirm). The Sabanci Central Mosque is open for prayer and visits outside prayer times, with a dress code for visitors, and may close to tourists during Friday midday prayers. Confirm any works on the bridge or the promenade before arriving, and avoid the early afternoon in July and August.
