Adare
Estate Village Of Thatched Cottages On The River Maigue With Medieval Friaries And Desmond Castle; Adare Manor Hosts The Ryder Cup On 17 19 September 2027 · Adare, Limerick
Adare is a small estate village on the River Maigue in County Limerick, about 16 km south-west of Limerick city, and one of the prettiest villages in Ireland. Its Main Street is lined with thatched cottages built for the Earls of Dunraven in the nineteenth century, several of them now restaurants and craft shops, and within a short walk stand three medieval religious houses - the Trinitarian Abbey and the Augustinian Friary, both still in use as parish churches, and the Franciscan Friary ruin on the golf course - plus Desmond Castle, a thirteenth-century fortress on the riverbank shown by guided tour in summer. Beside the village is Adare Manor, the Dunravens' Gothic Revival mansion, now a luxury hotel and golf resort that hosts the Ryder Cup on 17-19 September 2027. People come for an hour's stroll and a photo of the cottages, a lunch stop between Shannon and Kerry, or a special night at the Manor. The honest caveat: the village is small and traffic on the N21 through Main Street can crawl, and Ryder Cup week 2027 will fill and price out hotels across Limerick and Clare.
