Adler Planetarium

Planetarium · Chicago, Illinois

The first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, opened in 1930 on a spit of made land at the end of the Museum Campus after the Sears executive Max Adler bought a Zeiss projector in Munich and built a rotunda round it. It holds one of the finest historical collections of astronomical instruments anywhere — astrolabes, sundials, early telescopes — alongside three theatres and a lakefront position that gives the single best view of the Chicago skyline.

1300 South DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Illinois, 60605, United States

Generally daily around 9 AM - 4 PM with seasonal variation — check the calendar. Dome shows included with admission but seat-limited and scheduled.
