Adventure Aquarium

Aquarium · Camden, New Jersey

A large aquarium on the Camden waterfront, opened in 1992 as the New Jersey State Aquarium and rebuilt and rebranded in 2005 into something considerably more commercial. IT HOLDS THE LARGEST SHARK COLLECTION ON THE EAST COAST and its signature is SHARK BRIDGE — a V-shaped rope bridge you walk suspended directly over the shark tank, which is not a viewing window but a genuinely unnerving crossing. IT IS ALSO ONE OF ONLY TWO AQUARIUMS IN THE UNITED STATES WITH NILE HIPPOS. It faces Philadelphia across the Delaware and the ferry from Penn's Landing lands beside it.

Open most days with seasonal hours and a small number of holiday closures. BOOK ONLINE AND IN ADVANCE — the gate price is substantially higher, often by ten dollars or more a head, and timed-entry slots are used at busy periods and do sell out. Feeding, diver-show and keeper-talk schedules are posted at the door and are included with admission; SOME EXPERIENCES ARE SEPARATELY TICKETED PAID ADD-ONS. Paid waterfront parking, which fills on event days at the adjacent concert venue. The RiverLink Ferry from Philadelphia lands beside the door and runs seasonally.
