ʻAkaka Falls State Park

State Park · Honomu, Hawaii

A state park about eleven miles north of Hilo, west of Honomu at the end of Hawaii Route 220, built around a 442-foot waterfall that drops into a deep gorge. A short paved loop trail runs through dense tropical planting - bamboo, ginger, heliconia and orchids - to viewpoints over the falls. Kahuna Falls, some 300 feet, and several smaller cascades are visible from the same loop.

Akaka Falls Road, Honomu, Hawaii, 96728, United States

Open daily during daylight hours. ⚠ OUT-OF-STATE VISITORS PAY AN ENTRY FEE AND A SEPARATE PARKING FEE; Hawaii residents with ID are exempt from both. The car park is small and fills in the middle of the day. There is no food and no shop. The loop trail is short and the falls are visible within a few minutes of leaving the car.
