Alamance Battleground
Battlefield · Burlington, North Carolina
Where the Royal Governor's militia met the Regulators on 16 May 1771 and broke them in two hours - the end of a backcountry rebellion against corrupt colonial officials that had run for years. It is argued over as a precursor to the Revolution and as something quite separate: a tax and corruption revolt that both sides of the later war drew from. The battlefield is small, free, and interpreted with unusual care about that ambiguity.
