Alaska Native Heritage Center
Nonprofit Alaska Native Cultural Centre · Anchorage, Alaska
A cultural centre on the north-east edge of Anchorage, opened in 1999, where Alaska Native people share the living cultures of the state's many Indigenous groups. Inside, dancers and singers perform in the Welcome House, artists work on carving, beadwork and skin sewing, and athletes demonstrate traditional Native games of strength and balance. Outside, a path around Lake Tiulana leads to five life-size village sites representing the Athabascan; Yup'ik and Cup'ik; Iñupiaq and St. Lawrence Island Yupik; Unangax̂ and Alutiiq (Sugpiaq); and Eyak, Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples, each with a traditional dwelling and a culture bearer to talk with. For summer 2026 it opened daily 9 AM-5 PM from 10 May to 13 September, with a free shuttle from downtown Anchorage from 1 June, and admission was free for Alaska Native and other Indigenous visitors with ID.
