Alaska Raptor Center

Nonprofit Raptor Rehabilitation Centre · Sitka, Alaska

A bird hospital and education centre in the rainforest on the edge of Sitka, founded in 1980, which rescues and treats injured bald eagles, owls, hawks, falcons and other wild birds from across Alaska and releases them when they recover. Visitors see resident birds that can no longer survive in the wild, meet staff and handlers who bring birds out for talks, and watch through one-way glass as recovering eagles relearn to fly in a large indoor flight-training centre built to look like a rainforest. A nature trail leads through the forest toward the Indian River and Sitka National Historical Park next door. In 2026 it opened daily 8 AM-4 PM from 29 April to 29 September, last admission 3:30 PM, and Tuesday to Friday 10 AM-3 PM the rest of the year. Admission was $16 for adults and $8 for children aged 6-12.
