Amarillo Route 66 Historic District

Heritage District · Amarillo, Texas

Thirteen blocks of Sixth Avenue in the San Jacinto neighbourhood of Amarillo, the surviving stretch of the original Route 66 alignment through the city — filling stations, diners, motor courts and shopfronts from the 1920s to the 1950s, now antique shops, bars and live music rooms. It is the most intact urban stretch of the old road left in Texas.

Southwest Sixth Avenue, Amarillo, Texas, 79106, United States

A public street district, free to walk and open at all times — but individual businesses set their own hours and ⚠ MIDWEEK MIDDAYS CAN FIND MUCH OF IT CLOSED. Antique dealers keep daytime hours; the bars and live music rooms run late at weekends, so the district has two separate personalities. Free on-street parking along Sixth Avenue. Cadillac Ranch is ten minutes west on I-40.
