American Windmill Museum

Specialty Museum · Lubbock, Texas

A field and a hangar in Lubbock holding what is generally described as the largest windmill collection in the world — well over a hundred restored American water-pumping mills standing in rows on the Llano Estacado, plus a full-size Dutch mill and a wind turbine nacelle you can walk inside. Without these machines, none of West Texas would have been settled.

⚠ HOURS AND ADMISSION ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them. Check windmill.com before travelling; museums of this size in this region commonly close one or two days a week. ⚠ The collection is largely OUTDOORS on the open Llano Estacado — bring a windproof layer, and come late in the day for the light. Ask at the desk which mills are turning; a static field is a much lesser visit.
