The first museum in the United States devoted to American writers as a whole, opened on Michigan Avenue in 2017. It has almost no objects, which is deliberate — a museum about writing cannot show you writing in a case, so it is built instead out of interactive walls, readable surfaces and typewriters visitors are encouraged to use.
