Amicalola Falls State Park
Georgia State Park · Dawsonville, Georgia
Eight hundred acres on the southern edge of the Blue Ridge holding a waterfall that drops 729 feet in seven cascades — the tallest cascading falls east of the Mississippi, and the reason the Cherokee name for the creek means tumbling waters. A staircase of 604 steps climbs the face of it. The park is also where the Appalachian Trail effectively begins for most people: the approach trail to Springer Mountain starts under a stone arch behind the visitor centre and runs 8.5 miles north to the official southern terminus.
418 Amicalola Falls State Park Road, Dawsonville, Georgia, 30534, United States
Open daily year round, generally 7 AM to sunset, with a Georgia ParkPass required per vehicle. The lodge, cabins and campground are open to registered guests around the clock. The staircase closes in ice. There are separate car parks at the base and at the top of the falls, connected by road.
