Andrew Johnson National Historic Site
National Historic Site · Greeneville, Tennessee
Greeneville preserves the whole arc of the only president who had been a tailor: the small brick shop where Andrew Johnson worked before he entered politics, kept intact inside a purpose-built museum; the Homestead he lived in before and after the White House; and the hillside cemetery where he is buried wrapped in a flag with a copy of the Constitution beneath his head. It is a small site and a quiet one, and it covers a whole presidency — impeachment included — in about ninety minutes.
