Angelina National Forest

National Forest · Zavalla, Texas

About 153,000 acres in the Neches River basin of deep East Texas, wrapped around both the north and south shores of Sam Rayburn Reservoir — at 114,400 acres the largest manmade lake lying wholly within Texas. Beyond the water it holds longleaf pine restoration stands, two wilderness areas, and the ruins of the Aldridge sawmill, a concrete company town swallowed by the forest that grew back over it.
