Anheuser-Busch Brewery

Industrial Heritage · St. Louis, Missouri

A brewery complex on the south side of St. Louis opened in 1852 and run by Adolphus Busch from the 1860s, now a National Historic Landmark District - which is unusual for a working industrial site still producing at scale. The Brew House of 1891 is the building people come for: cast iron, tile and stained glass on a scale that has nothing to do with brewing efficiency and everything to do with a nineteenth-century industrialist demonstrating what he could afford. The Clydesdales are stabled here in a building of comparable ambition.
