Apalachicola National Forest

National Forest · Crawfordville, Florida

Six hundred and thirty thousand acres south-west of Tallahassee — the largest national forest in Florida, and one of the last strongholds of the red-cockaded woodpecker in the longleaf pine it depends on. It holds two designated wildernesses, one of which, Bradwell Bay, has a reputation among long-distance hikers as the wettest and most miserable section of the entire Florida Trail.
