Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

Non Profit Zoo, Botanical Garden And Natural History Museum · Tucson, Arizona

A zoo, botanical garden, natural history museum and aquarium combined in the Tucson Mountains west of the city, founded in 1952 to show the living Sonoran Desert. About two miles of paths lead mostly outdoors past mountain lions, black bears, Mexican wolves, ocelots, javelinas, a hummingbird aviary, a walk-in cave of minerals and more than a thousand kinds of desert plants. In the cooler months its Raptor Free Flight lets hawks and owls fly close over the audience. It is widely regarded as one of the best museums of its kind anywhere, and it is next to Saguaro National Park's western district.

2021 North Kinney Road, Tucson, Arizona, 85743, United States

Open daily. Summer (June to August) about 7:30 AM to 5 PM; other seasons have later openings and occasional evening events (check desertmuseum.org).
