Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge
Wildlife Reserve · Boynton Beach, Florida
The last surviving piece of the northern Everglades — roughly 145,000 acres of peat-based ridge and slough that the drainage of the twentieth century did not reach. Everything most people picture as the Everglades is the southern end of the system; this is the top of it, and it is the only remnant of that northern landscape left in existence.
10216 Lee Road, Boynton Beach, Florida, 33473, United States
The refuge is open daily from sunrise to sunset. The visitor centre keeps shorter hours and is closed some days — check before relying on it. A federal entrance fee applies.
