Ashikaga Flower Park
Ashikaga Flower Park, A Garden In Tochigi Famous For Its Wisteria In Late April And Early May, With Old Trees Trained Over Huge Trellises And A Tunnel Of Hanging Flowers Lit At Night. Peak Bloom Draws Crowds And Timed Ticket Rules. · Ashikaga, Tochigi
Ashikaga Flower Park is a flower garden in Ashikaga, Tochigi, famous for its wisteria. The star is a great wisteria tree said to be around 160 years old, trained over a huge trellis so that its hanging purple flowers form a roof. Nearby are a white wisteria tunnel and a long-hanging yellow wisteria, and in the evening the garden is lit, which is the part that has been featured internationally. Peak bloom is usually from late April to early May, overlapping with Golden Week, so it is crowded. The park suits couples, photographers and families who like flowers and do not mind queues. It is worth the detour at peak bloom, ideally on a weekday, and for the winter light show. It is not worth it in summer, when little is in bloom. Allow three to four hours, longer if you stay for the evening. Check bloom reports before you go, expect a higher ticket price at the peak, and allow for long queues at the car park, the gate and the food stalls.
