Auditorium Theatre
Theater · Chicago, Illinois
Adler and Sullivan's 1889 theatre on what is now Ida B. Wells Drive, built inside a hotel and office block so the commercial parts would pay for the hall — and with a young Frank Lloyd Wright working as a draftsman on the drawings. Its acoustics are still held up as among the finest of any large hall anywhere, achieved by Dankmar Adler with elliptical vaults and no electronic help at all. It is a National Historic Landmark and Roosevelt University owns it.
