B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center

Specialty Museum · Indianola, Mississippi

A museum built in 2008 around a brick cotton gin in Indianola where Riley B. King worked as a young man driving a tractor, before he became B.B. King. He is buried on the grounds. The building is deliberately half about him and half about the Delta that made him — sharecropping, the gin, the church, the move north — on the argument that the music is unintelligible without the economics, and it is the most thoughtful museum of the three blues rows in this state.

400 Second Street, Indianola, Mississippi, 38751, United States

Generally open Tuesday to Saturday, roughly 10 AM to 5 PM, with Sunday afternoon opening in the warmer months and CLOSED MONDAYS for most of the year — verify before travelling. Closed on major holidays. B.B. King Day in June brings a festival to Indianola.
