Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
Historic House · Baltimore, Maryland
A narrow brick row house on Emory Street where George Herman Ruth was born in 1895 in his grandparents' upstairs bedroom, two blocks from where Oriole Park at Camden Yards now stands — his father's saloon was on ground that is roughly centre field. He was sent to St. Mary's Industrial School at seven and stayed until he was nineteen, and a Xaverian brother there taught him to pitch. The house is small, the collection is good, and the walk from the ballpark takes five minutes.
