Bahia Kino, also written Bahia de Kino, is a fishing village and beach town on the Sea of Cortez in Sonora, about 115 km west of Hermosillo. It is split into Old Kino, the working fishing quarter with boats on the sand and seafood stalls, and New Kino, a long strip of beach houses and simple hotels. The beaches are wide, flat and shallow, good for walking, paddling and fishing from the shore, and local boats offer sport fishing trips. It is also a gateway to the culture of the Seri people, who call themselves the Comcaac. There is a small museum about them in town, and visits to Isla Tiburon are made only with Comcaac guides and the right permits. Summers are very hot, winters are mild and quiet, and Easter week brings big crowds. Check current state travel advice before you go and drive by day. It suits people from Hermosillo and Arizona who want a simple seaside weekend. Skip it if you want resorts, nightlife or clear tropical water.
