Bally's Dover

Casino, Hotel And Harness Racing Track On US 13 In Dover, Opened In 1995 As Dover Downs And Rebranded As Bally'S In The Early 2020s, Sharing Its Grounds With Dover Motor Speedway · Dover, Delaware

Bally's Dover is the casino and hotel complex on the north side of Delaware's capital, built around the same grounds as Dover Motor Speedway. For most of its life it was called Dover Downs: harness racing came first, the slot floor opened in 1995 after Delaware allowed video lottery machines at its racetracks, and a hotel tower followed. Twin River, the company that later took the Bally's name, bought the business, and the property was rebranded as Bally's in the early 2020s. Today it is a mid-sized regional casino rather than a destination resort: a large floor of slot machines, a pit of table games, a sportsbook, several restaurants and bars, a hotel with a spa and pool, and an event center that books concerts, comedy and boxing. In the colder months standardbred horses race on the harness track that sits inside the speedway oval. Most visitors are locals and day-trippers from Maryland and Pennsylvania. Nobody drives far for the building itself; you go for a show, a race night, a room near the track or a few hours at the tables.

The casino floor keeps very long hours all year, around the clock on many days, but Delaware rules and the operator decide whether it closes for a few hours overnight midweek, so confirm before planning a 4 a.m. arrival. Table games do not all run all the time: many tables open only in the evening and at weekends, and the poker room, if one is operating, keeps its own shorter schedule. The sportsbook counter has set hours, while kiosks and the state's mobile betting options follow their own rules; confirm. Restaurants each keep separate hours, and some close entirely on quiet weekdays. Harness racing is SEASONAL: it has traditionally run from about late autumn to spring, only on a few set days a week with an afternoon post time, and there is no live racing in summer, when the track sits empty; confirm the current meet dates. The event center is open only for booked shows. The hotel front desk and parking run all day and night. On NASCAR weekends every part of the property is packed and the normal rhythm disappears.
