Bar Harbor

Beach Town · Bar Harbor, Maine

A resort town of about five thousand people on Mount Desert Island, at the gate of Acadia National Park, which has been receiving summer visitors since steamboats began running from Boston in 1868. It is the base almost everyone uses for Acadia, it has the island's restaurants and boat trips, and out of season it empties almost completely.

2 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, Maine, 04609, United States

The town is open at all times and FREE to walk. ⚠ IT IS STRONGLY SEASONAL: most shops, restaurants and boat operators run roughly May to October and a great many close entirely for the winter, when Bar Harbor becomes a quiet town of five thousand. Cruise ships call from summer into autumn and the town fills on those days. The free Island Explorer shuttle runs in season only.
