Bardstown
Old Town · Bardstown, Kentucky
A small county town of the 1780s in the Nelson County knobs, laid out around a courthouse square and calling itself the Bourbon Capital of the World, which for once is close to defensible — six working distilleries sit within a short radius of the square and the industry has been here continuously since the eighteenth century. It is also the second-oldest city in Kentucky, with a substantial preserved centre, the Federal Hill mansion that gave the state its song, and one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals west of the Alleghenies.
