Battleship New Jersey
National Historic Landmark · Camden, New Jersey
An Iowa-class battleship, 887 feet long, moored on the Camden waterfront directly across the Delaware from Philadelphia — and THE MOST DECORATED BATTLESHIP IN UNITED STATES NAVY HISTORY. She was built at the Philadelphia Navy Yard a mile from where she now sits, fought in the Second World War, Korea and Vietnam, was recommissioned in the 1980s and shelled Lebanon in 1983, and was finally struck in 1991. Her sixteen-inch guns threw a shell the weight of a small car twenty-three miles. You go everywhere aboard, including the engine rooms, and you can sleep in the crew berthing.
100 Clinton Street, Camden, New Jersey, 08103, United States
Open most days with holiday closures, and CLOSED ON SOME WEEKDAYS OUT OF SEASON. Tiered admission with reductions for children, seniors, students, military and veterans; the general route is self-guided. HARD HAT AND PREMIUM TOURS reach the turret interiors and engineering spaces the standard ticket does not and have limited places booked in advance. Overnight encampments in the crew berthing book months ahead. VERIFY SHE IS OPEN AND IN HER BERTH BEFORE TRAVELLING — the ship periodically goes into dry dock for hull maintenance, closing the museum entirely for extended periods. Paid parking on the Camden waterfront; the seasonal RiverLink ferry runs from Penn's Landing in Philadelphia.
