Baxter State Park

Subnational Park · Millinocket, Maine

Over two hundred thousand acres of wilderness in north-central Maine, given to the state in twenty-eight separate donations by Percival Baxter between 1931 and 1962 on his condition that it be kept "forever wild" - and the trust has been honoured with a severity that surprises visitors. Katahdin stands in the middle of it at 5,269 feet, the highest mountain in Maine, and Baxter Peak is the official northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.

64 Balsam Drive, Millinocket, Maine, 04462, United States
