Bear Lake State Park

Subnational Park · St. Charles, Idaho

The Idaho end of a lake that is famous mostly for its colour - Bear Lake is a turquoise that looks wrong for the Rocky Mountains, and the cause is limestone particles suspended in the water scattering blue light. The lake straddles the Idaho-Utah line and Idaho holds the northern shore, where this park runs two units: North Beach, a long shallow strand of pale sand at the top of the lake, and East Beach on the quieter eastern side. The Utah end has the marinas and the resort town; the Idaho end has the beach and considerably fewer people on it.

North Beach Road, St. Charles, Idaho, 83272, United States

⚠ THE BEACH UNITS ARE SEASONAL, running roughly late spring to early autumn, and services close for the winter although the lake and the shore remain reachable. An IDAHO STATE PARK VEHICLE ENTRY FEE applies at the entrance station and the state annual passport is accepted. ⚠ AN IDAHO PASS DOES NOT COVER THE UTAH SIDE OF THE LAKE - Utah State Parks charge separately at the southern end, and this catches people who drive round. Camping is reserved through the Idaho state park reservation service and summer weekends book early. THE PARK RUNS TWO UNITS: North Beach at the top of the lake, which has the warmest and shallowest water, and East Beach on the quieter eastern shore. There are no lifeguards and there is no shade.
