Beaver Creek

A Tiny Highway Village On The Alaska Highway, The Westernmost Community In Canada And The Last Canadian Stop Before The Alaska Border, With The Canada Customs Post, A Visitor Information Centre, A Lodge And Fuel. White River First Nation Has A Community Here. A Stop For Fuel, A Meal And A Border Crossing For Road Trippers · Beaver Creek, Yukon

Beaver Creek is a tiny highway village on the Alaska Highway in far western Yukon, the westernmost community in Canada. It lies about 450 km west of Whitehorse and roughly 30 km from the Alaska border, and it grew in 1946 as a maintenance camp when the highway was opened to the public. The village is the Canadian customs station for road traffic heading into Alaska and for travellers coming out, so hours at the post matter (confirm them). A visitor information centre, a lodge, fuel and a few cafes serve the traffic. The White River First Nation has a community here, and its culture is a quiet part of the place. Around the village the land is a wide, flat spruce valley with mountains on the horizon and the Beaver Creek running through. Population is about a hundred, services are few and summer is brief. Winters are dark and extremely cold, so most visitors stop for fuel, a meal, a stamp and a rest before the crossing.

The village is open all year, but visitor services run mainly from about mid May to mid September. The visitor information centre, lodges, cafes and some fuel stops keep short summer hours and may close in winter, so confirm dates and daily hours before you plan around them. The Canada Customs post is the border station for road travel to Alaska, with set hours that can differ between summer and winter, so confirm them with the Canada Border Services Agency before you arrive. Walking the village and the highway verge is free and open at any hour, and June and July evenings stay bright.
