Beavers Bend State Park
Oklahoma State Park; Parking Pass Required · Broken Bow, Oklahoma
Oklahoma's most visited state park, set in the pine and hardwood forest of the Ouachita foothills where the Lower Mountain Fork River leaves Broken Bow Lake. Water released from the bottom of the dam stays cold all year, so Beavers Bend holds the state's only year-round trout fishery, stocked with rainbows and, in the catch-and-release zone, brown trout. Sirens sound before hydroelectric and spillway releases, and the river then rises several feet and runs fast. Around the river sit 47 cabins, 393 campsites, Beavers Bend Lodge, a nature centre, the Forest Heritage Center museum, horse stables, a marina with boat and kayak rentals, an 18-hole golf course and miles of trails through short-leaf pine. Autumn colour here is the best in Oklahoma, peaking in late October and early November. A $10 daily parking pass is required.
