A Well Heeled Bosphorus Village With A Seafront Promenade, Cafes, An Ice Cream Shop, Bebek Park, A Small Mosque And A Marina, With A View Of Anadolu Hisari Across The Water. A Pleasant Evening Stroll And A Stop For Breakfast Or A Boat Trip · Besiktas, Istanbul
Bebek is a waterfront village on the European shore of the Bosphorus in the Besiktas district, about 10 km north of Taksim, set in a curved bay between steep wooded hills. Its flat seafront promenade is one of the favourite walks in Istanbul: a broad stone quay with benches and plane trees passes Bebek Park, a small mosque, a marina of private boats and a row of cafes, while the Asian shore and the little Anadolu Hisari fortress sit directly across the water. Behind the quay the streets climb to the Bogazici University campus, which gives the village a student crowd by day, and to quiet residential lanes of apartments and old mansions. Locals come for breakfast, for ice cream and almond sweets from long-established shops (confirm which ones), and for a slow evening stroll. Bebek is not a sight with a ticket gate. It is a place to sit by the strait, watch tankers and ferries pass, and walk on to Rumeli Hisari in about half an hour.
