Belmont Park
Amusement Park · San Diego, California
Belmont Park is a small seaside amusement park on Mission Beach in San Diego, opened in 1925 and built around the Giant Dipper, a wooden roller coaster that is a National Historic Landmark and still carries riders. It was rescued from demolition by a preservation campaign in the 1990s. The park sits right on the sand, with the Pacific on one side and the Mission Beach boardwalk along the other, and beside it is the historic Plunge, an indoor swimming pool from the same era - confirm its public hours. Admission to the grounds is free; you pay per ride or buy a wristband - confirm current prices. Besides the coaster there are a handful of smaller rides, an arcade, shops, beachfront restaurants and attractions such as a ropes course and laser tag - confirm what is open. It is a compact park, not a Disneyland substitute: come for the coaster, the beach and the boardwalk atmosphere. Summer weekends are crowded, and finding a place to park is the real challenge.

The park is generally open daily through the year, but the hours change with the season: longer days from late spring through summer, shorter ones in winter, and some rides may close on weekdays or in bad weather, so confirm the current schedule before you drive out. The Giant Dipper can be closed for maintenance or high wind at any time. Entrance to the grounds is free, and the restaurants, shops and arcade keep their own hours, often later than the rides. The Plunge pool runs on its own timetable with lap swim and public sessions - confirm times. Summer weekends and holidays bring the biggest crowds.
