Birmingham Zoo

Zoo · Birmingham, Alabama

The largest zoo in Alabama, on a hundred and twenty acres in the Mountain Brook end of the city, next door to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Its distinctive holding is Trails of Africa, a large habitat built for a bachelor herd of male elephants — a management approach very few American zoos attempt, because bull elephants are difficult and most collections keep females instead. The rest is a solid regional zoo doing regional zoo things well.

2630 Cahaba Road, Birmingham, Alabama, 35223, United States

Open daily, generally 9 AM - 5 PM with seasonal variation. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. FREE parking. Zoolight Safari runs on December evenings on a separate ticket.
