Bixby Creek Bridge

Iconic Bridge · Monterey, California

The open-spandrel concrete arch on Highway 1 in Big Sur, finished in 1932 to replace a wagon road that closed every winter, and now one of the most photographed bridges in the world. It is 714 feet long and stands 280 feet above the creek, and almost everyone who stops does so on a fast blind bend with nowhere proper to put a car.
