Blackfriars Playhouse

The only re-creation anywhere in the world of Shakespeare's indoor theatre, built in oak in Staunton in 2001 from the surviving evidence for the Blackfriars in London. Its three hundred seats surround the stage on three sides and some of them are on it, the chandeliers stay lit through the performance so the actors can see the audience, and the American Shakespeare Center plays there most weeks of the year.
