Blackstrap Provincial Park
A Reservoir Park With A Man Made Hill (Mount Blackstrap) Used For Ski Racing, A Beach, Boat Launches, A Campground And Trails Above The Lake, Built As A Recreation Area For Saskatoon. A Year Round Park With Skiing In Winter And Boating In Summer · Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Blackstrap Provincial Park lies beside Blackstrap Lake, about 30 km south of Saskatoon on Highway 211, a long man-made reservoir in the flat prairie that was built for recreation and water supply (confirm distance). Its signature feature is Mount Blackstrap, a tall artificial hill raised from earth moved to shape the reservoir, whose slopes carry ski runs in winter and a lookout in summer. Down at the water, a beach, boat launches, a campground and trails give the park a lively summer side, while the quiet of the prairie around the lake brings pelicans, geese and big skies. It is one of the few parks in the province that works hard in all four seasons, with boating, camping, fishing, hiking and ski racing in turn. A park entry permit is needed for day use, and camping is booked through Saskatchewan Parks (confirm all fees and dates). The hill is the draw, but the water and the quiet evenings are what bring people back each year.

Blackstrap is open year-round, with the beach, campground, launches and park office staffed in a summer season that generally runs from about the May long weekend to early September (confirm). The ski hill operates on its own winter schedule, usually from December until snow melts, with evening skiing on some days and ski club events on weekends, so confirm hours and conditions before driving. Day use follows daylight, and campers follow the check-in and check-out times set at booking. Roads are plowed to the main areas in winter, but washrooms and shelters may be closed.
