Bluespring Caverns

Show Cave · Bedford, Indiana

A cave near Bedford whose main passage carries the longest known navigable underground river in the United States, and whose entire public tour is taken by boat. Around three miles of subterranean river have been explored and about a mile of it is run on the tour, in flat-bottomed electric boats through passage that is largely bare rock rather than dripstone. The cave holds blind cavefish and blind crayfish, both eyeless and unpigmented from generations without light.

1459 Bluespring Caverns Road, Bedford, Indiana, 47421, United States

Open daily in season, generally spring through autumn, with reduced or no winter operation. Tours run on a rotating schedule through the day. THE CAVE CLOSES AFTER HEAVY RAIN when the underground river rises — call on the day if the weather has been wet.
