Boiling Springs State Park

Oklahoma State Park With Civilian Conservation Corps Structures; Named For Springs In The Sandhills · Woodward, Oklahoma

A park of about 820 acres in the Cimarron River cottonwood forest and sandhills east of Woodward, named for springs that bubble up through sand so that the ground appears to boil. The Civilian Conservation Corps built it in the 1930s, planting the sandhills and raising the stone bathhouse, shelters and bridges that still stand, and the spring water fed a swimming pool that became the park's summer centre, though the pool is closed as of September 2026 with no reopening date given. Trails wind through cottonwood, elm and eastern red cedar with a small lake for fishing and paddling, and the park is unusual in western Oklahoma for its shade: it is a green island in wheat and grassland country. There are cabins, campgrounds, a group camp and a mountain bike trail, and Woodward's Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum is fifteen minutes west.
