Bon Echo Provincial Park
A Provincial Park Around Mazinaw Rock, A Granite Cliff About 100 M High With More Than 260 Indigenous Pictographs, The Largest Set On A Single Rock Face In Ontario. Rock Paintings Are Seen From A Paddle Or Boat Tour, Not By Climbing. Camping And Paddling Through Summer. · Cloyne, Ontario
Bon Echo Provincial Park sits on Mazinaw Lake in the Land O'Lakes region of eastern Ontario, roughly 2.5 hours by road from Toronto or Ottawa. Its centrepiece is Mazinaw Rock, a granite cliff about 100 m high that rises straight out of deep water and carries more than 260 Indigenous pictographs, the largest set on a single rock face in Ontario. The paintings are sacred to Algonquin and Anishinaabe peoples, and they are looked at from a canoe, a boat tour or the shore, never touched or approached. Beyond the rock there is a beach, a large summer campground, paddling routes and a climb along the clifftop with wide lake views. It suits paddlers, campers and families who like a quiet lake more than an attraction. Expect mosquitoes and black flies in early summer, and busy weekends in July and August. Allow a full day, or two nights if you camp. Day-use entry is by Ontario Parks permit, so confirm current fees before you go.

Bon Echo is a seasonal park, with the main camping, beach and boat tour season running from late spring to early autumn, roughly May to October. Gate and office hours change through the year, and day-use permits are normally valid for the day of purchase, so confirm the current Ontario Parks listing before travelling. Boat tours to see the pictographs run on a summer schedule set by the operator and depend on weather and wind, so ask at the park office or the tour desk for that day. Winter access is limited and services are closed, though some roads and trails may be used for quiet outdoor activity. Camping reservations open months ahead and summer weekends fill early. Check office hours on arrival.
