Bondi Beach
Australia'S Best Known Beach, A Curve Of Sand Five Minutes From Eastern Sydney, Backed By The Bondi To Coogee Coastal Walk And An Ocean Pool Cut Into The Rocks At Its Southern End, As Much A Daily Fitness Ritual For Locals As A Tourist Stop · Bondi, New South Wales
Bondi is Australia's best-known beach, a wide curve of sand about seven kilometres from central Sydney that locals treat as a daily fitness ritual as much as visitors treat it as a bucket-list stop. The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk runs south from the beach past Tamarama and Bronte to Coogee, a genuinely scenic clifftop path that gets busier than the beach itself on a weekend morning. At the southern end, the Bondi Icebergs ocean pool sits cut into the rocks, filled and refreshed by the sea, home to one of the world's oldest winter swimming clubs. The Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club, founded in 1906, is the oldest formally organised surf lifesaving club anywhere, and its red and yellow flags mark the only genuinely safe swimming zone on a beach with real rip currents either side of it. Campbell Parade along the beachfront carries cafes, a Sunday market and the bulk of the crowds. Bondi is also simply crowded in summer, at Christmas and New Year especially, and that crowding is as real a part of visiting as the view, worth planning around rather than ignoring.

Bondi Beach itself has no gate and is open around the clock, though swimming outside patrolled hours is genuinely at your own risk. Surf lifesavers patrol the flagged area daily, with hours extending in summer and shrinking in the cooler months, so check the posted board at the surf club before swimming outside the main season. The Bondi Icebergs pool keeps its own ticketed hours and closes to the public during club swimming events and occasional maintenance. The Bondi Markets at Bondi Beach Public School run on Sundays only and are not a daily market.
