Borrego Springs
Dark Sky Reserve · Borrego Springs, California
A small desert town entirely surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, and the second place in the world to be designated an International Dark Sky Community. There are no traffic lights and no street lights by deliberate policy. Scattered across the desert around it are around 130 rusted steel sculptures — sloths, camels, raptors and a 350-foot serpent — installed by a local landowner.

A town, always open. Stargazing is best October to April at new moon. Summer is dangerously hot.
