Brackley Beach
A Broad Red Sand Beach In The PEI National Park With Dunes, A Boardwalk, A Lifeguard Season And Warm Shallow Water, A Few Kilometres From Charlottetown. A Popular Family Beach On The North Shore, Often Busy In July And August · Brackley Beach, Prince Edward Island
Brackley Beach is the central beach of Prince Edward Island National Park on the island north shore, about 25 km north of Charlottetown, where Brackley Bay and Covehead Bay lie behind a ridge of dunes facing the Gulf of St. Lawrence. A long boardwalk crosses the marram grass to a broad strand of red-tinged sand, and the shallow Gulf water here warms to some of the most comfortable swimming temperatures in the Atlantic provinces by late summer. Lifeguards cover the main stretch in season, and washrooms, changing rooms and a seasonal snack stand sit beside the car park. Because it is the closest park beach to the capital, it is the busiest of the north shore beaches in July and August, while spring and autumn bring wind, wide empty sand and big skies. The dunes shelter nesting shorebirds, including the piping plover, so fences and boardwalks must be followed. Walkers can follow the sand east or west for kilometres, and the sheltered bay behind the dunes suits paddling and bird watching.

The beach itself has no gate and is open at any hour, but services keep a summer pattern. Lifeguards usually cover the main stretch from about late June to late August, roughly mid-morning to late afternoon, with exact dates and flagged zones set by Parks Canada each year - confirm. Washrooms, changing rooms and the snack stand follow the same season, and the park gate or booth may collect fees from about late spring to early autumn. Outside those weeks the beach stays open but unsupervised, with cold water, strong wind and a few services. Dune areas fenced for nesting birds may close from spring into summer, so confirm current notices before you plan a walk.
