Branbury State Park

Beach · Salisbury, Vermont

A thousand feet of natural sand beach on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore at Salisbury, with the Green Mountains rising directly behind it and a campground under the trees. It is a straightforward Vermont state park beach and it is one of the better ones - warm water by high summer, boats to rent, and fishing that turns up rainbow trout, salmon, perch and pike. What lifts it above an ordinary swimming lake is what is behind: the trails climb from the road into the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area, to the Falls of Lana within twenty minutes and on to Silver Lake beyond, so a beach day and a proper walk share a car park.

3570 Lake Dunmore Road, Salisbury, Vermont, 05733, United States

⚠ SEASONAL - open roughly MID-MAY TO COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND and closed the rest of the year. A modest per-person Vermont State Parks day-use fee; free parking on site. ⚠ THE WATER IS GENUINELY COLD UNTIL WELL INTO JUNE despite the mid-May opening - LATE JUNE TO EARLY SEPTEMBER is the real swimming window, and early September is the best of it. A 1,000-FOOT NATURAL SAND BEACH on Lake Dunmore, with CANOES, KAYAKS, PEDAL BOATS AND A ROWBOAT to hire on site and fishing for rainbow trout, salmon, perch and pike under Vermont regulations. ⚠ DO NOT ASSUME A LIFEGUARD IS ON DUTY - check on arrival and supervise children directly regardless. ⚠ THE SAME CAR PARK SERVES THE FALLS OF LANA AND SILVER LAKE TRAILS into the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area, so it FILLS FASTER THAN A BEACH ALONE WOULD on hot summer weekends - go early or go midweek. The campground has showers and ⚠ BOOKS OUT MONTHS AHEAD for summer weekends. ⚠ THE POSTCODE IS A BRANDON ONE THOUGH THE PARK IS IN SALISBURY, which confuses satnavs - navigate to Lake Dunmore Road and the park signs.
