Branson
Resort Area · Branson, Missouri
A town of about twelve and a half thousand people in the Ozarks that receives several million visitors a year, almost entirely for live entertainment - some fifty theatres along a strip of Highway 76 running country, gospel, variety and tribute shows, mostly matinee and early evening. It grew out of the Ozark tourism the Shepherd of the Hills novel started in 1907 and the Presley family variety show in 1967, and it is now the second-largest live theatre market in the United States after Broadway by seat count. Silver Dollar City is here, and so is Table Rock Lake.

A working town, open at all hours. THEATRE SEASONS ARE THE THING TO CHECK: most shows run roughly March to December with the heaviest schedule from June and an enormous Christmas season from November, and a significant number of theatres and attractions CLOSE ENTIRELY IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. Silver Dollar City follows the same pattern. Do not plan a mid-winter Branson trip without checking what is actually open.
