Brazos Bend State Park

Subnational Park · Needville, Texas

Nearly 4,900 acres of coastal prairie, bottomland hardwood and wetland forty-five miles southwest of Houston, holding somewhere between 250 and 350 adult American alligators in about a thousand acres of water — which is why you may not enter it. Thirty-seven miles of trail run past six lakes, more than 300 bird species pass through, and the George Observatory sits in the middle of it with research telescopes open to the public on Saturday nights.

21901 Farm to Market Road 762, Needville, Texas, 77461, United States

Gate open 8 AM - 10 PM daily. $7 per person 13 and over, FREE 12 and under. ⚠ NO SWIMMING, WADING OR PRIVATE BOATING — TPWD prohibits entering the water because of alligator density. ⚠ GEORGE OBSERVATORY tickets are sold ONLY in advance at hmns.org, are NOT sold at the park, and do NOT include park entry — you need a day pass as well.
