Breaks Interstate Park
Canyon · Breaks, Virginia
A gorge five miles long and as much as sixteen hundred feet deep, cut by the Russell Fork through Pine Mountain on the Virginia-Kentucky line, and routinely called the Grand Canyon of the South. It is one of only two interstate parks in the United States, run jointly by the two states under a compact signed in 1954, and its October dam releases turn the river into one of the hardest commercially run whitewater runs in the East.
627 Commission Circle, Breaks, Virginia, 24607, United States
Park grounds generally open daily year round. Visitor centre, lodge, restaurant and pool run seasonal hours and several close in winter. Day-use fee per vehicle. October whitewater runs on published dam release dates.
