Breaux Bridge
Old Town · Breaux Bridge, Louisiana
A small town on the Bayou Teche ten minutes from Lafayette that the Louisiana legislature named THE CRAWFISH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD in 1959, and that has a stronger claim to living Cajun culture than anywhere its size. The reason to come is SATURDAY MORNING AT CAFÉ DES AMIS OR ITS SUCCESSORS — a zydeco breakfast where a band plays from about half past eight and the room dances between plates of boudin and eggs. The rest of the week it is a quiet brick main street with antique shops and a bayou running behind it.
Bridge Street, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, 70517, United States
A public town, open at all hours and free to walk. THE SATURDAY MORNING ZYDECO BREAKFAST runs from about 8:30 to noon and is the reason to come — CONFIRM THE CURRENT VENUE LOCALLY, because Café des Amis, which made the tradition famous, has closed and the session has moved. Bridge Street shops generally run late morning to late afternoon with MANY CLOSED SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS. Crawfish season runs roughly February to June. The Crawfish Festival falls on the first weekend of May and fills all local accommodation.
