A Space Coast zoo built in 1994 largely by its own community — sixteen thousand volunteers turned up over a few weeks to put up the fences and the boardwalks, which is why the place has the feel of something a town made rather than something a town bought. It is also the only zoo in the country where you can paddle a kayak through the animal exhibits.
